The founder
Charlie Helps FRSA has spent twenty years inside NHS governance, latterly as Trust Secretary to a group of three NHS Foundation Trusts. Before the NHS: naval service, Westminster, and a career in enterprise technology, including as a Senior Vice President within Canon Inc. He co-authored Foundations of Good Governance for NHS Providers (2015), and writes and presents for King’s Boardroom Journal, an association of long standing with Professor Mervyn King SC and the governance community around the King Codes.
The lineage
The intellectual roots are in King: value in the round, reported as one story. The methodological roots are in Kline: a thinking environment in which attention does the work. The technical roots are a career spent where boards and platforms meet, on both sides of the table.
The ethos
Sceptic in method, steward in purpose. Refusal is part of the design. Nothing counted that should not be; nothing uncounted that should.
What a board defends is value: acquired, preserved, created.
